Virginia Lucille Rieken, 91, of Shell Rock, Iowa, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019, at Unity Point - Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Virginia was born on April 28, 1927, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Alta Mae (Parker) and William Claude Lemons. She attended Sloan-Wallace school in Waterloo and then helped her mother at home.
Virginia worked small jobs, waitressing and at Henke Manufacturing. Her enjoyments were sewing, crocheting and crafts. In her younger years she enjoyed cooking and having the family together. On August 23, 1975, Virginia was united in marriage to Albert L. “Red” Rieken in Waverly, where the couple made their home and retiring.
Virginia is survived by a daughter, Penny Hunemiller of Waverly; a son, Gary (Sue) Reeves of Stewartville, Minnesota; a son, Russell Reeves of Cedar Falls; a son, Gilbert Baldwin of Waverly, a daughter, Sheri Bluhm of Waverly and a step-son, Randy (Marie) Rieken of Waverly; eighteen grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; along with her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert “Red” in February of 1999; and four sisters, Lorraine Lemons, Helen Lemons, Hazel Meyers and Gladys Cardenas.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2019 at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Jon M. Ellingworth officiating. Burial will follow in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also for one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.
