Sylvia R. Wendt, 90, Merriam, KS, passed Jan 3, 2017. Services will be 11:00am on Fri, Jan 13 at Charter Funerals in Merriam, with visitation beginning at 10:00am. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the family.
Sylvia was born August 14, 1926 in Kansas City, MO to Richard and Mildred Ahlstrom. A baseball lover, Sylvia was responsible for starting the Shawnee Mission School District Baseball Program in 1973 and was also an integral part of opening a Montessori School in Olathe, which benefitted hundreds of children. She was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and served there with all her heart. Sylvia was a homemaker, a great cook, was dearly loved by her family, and showed a lot of love to all of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, and four siblings. Survivors include two children, Cindy S. Peters (husband, Lynn) of Waverly, IA, and David Wendt (wife, Ginger) of Overland Park; and a brother, Winston Ahlstrom of Kansas City, MO.
