Steve Johnson, 66, of Shell Rock, IA died Saturday, July 1, 2017 at his home of natural causes.
Steven Ray Johnson was born on March 24, 1951, in Allison, Iowa, the son of Richard and Mildred (Johnson) Johnson. The family later moved to Parkersburg, Iowa where Steve attended school and graduated from the Parkersburg Community High School in 1969.
Steve served in Vietnam with the 597th Maintenance Company Sixth United States Army from June 4, 1969 until January 21, 1972. On June 6, 1973, he was united in marriage to Kathy Rewerts. The couple had two sons but were later divorced. Steve began working at John Deere in Waterloo in January 1973 until his retirement in January of 2004. His hobbies included mushroom hunting, fishing, casino trips, and playing cards with his friends.
Steve is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Matt (Yvonne Beem) Johnson of Waverly, Iowa and Joe (Julie) Johnson of Grundy Center, Iowa; a step-grandson; a granddaughter; a step-great-granddaughter; a brother, David Johnson of Parkersburg, Iowa; three sisters, Susan Garrison of Georgetown, Texas, Linda (Dennis) Daniels of Alden, Iowa, and Debra Sherburne of Parkersburg, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents.
As per his wishes, Steve's remains were cremated and there will be no formal funeral service. A private family memorial will take place at a future date and his military marker will be placed at Riverside Cemetery in Shell Rock.
