Ruth Catherine (Callison) Bridges, age97, of Waverly, Iowa, formerly of Plainfield, died on November 27, 2017 at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community, in Waverly.
Ruth was born February 3, 1920, in Kellogg, Iowa, the daughter of Robert Izaac and Mabel Mildred (Speas) Callison. Ruth was baptized at the age of twelve as a born-again Christian at Bethel Grove, Albion, Iowa. Ruth attended the Liscomb school system through the 10th grade, graduating from the Nevada High School. On March 19, 1938, Ruth was united in marriage to George A. Bridges in Gilman, Iowa. The couple lived in several communities including Plainfield, before moving to Waverly in 1976.
Ruth was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Plainfield, where she served as Sunday School Teacher and organized and cooked for many church functions and dinners. She was a member of the 15/30 Club & the West Orange Club of Waterloo. The most joy for Ruth came from spending time with her family, friends, especially her grand and great grandchildren.
Ruth’s memory is honored by: two sons, Jack (Karen) Bridges of Lake City, Minnesota and Kevin (Lori) Bridges of Plainfield, Iowa; two daughters, Shirley (Steve) Clark of Waverly, Iowa, Joyce (Ron) Borglum of Waverly, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Barb Bridges of Waverly, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; fifty two great- grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, George; a son, Fred Bridges; a grandson, W. Shawn Clark; a great-grandson, Todd Stephen Clark Jr.; a brother Carroll Callison; and three sisters, Opal, Imogene and Dorothy.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 30 at First Baptist Church in Waverly with Pastor Dan Eloe officiating. Burial will precede the funeral at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, at Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 29, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Online condolences for Ruth may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
