Ruth Ann Meihost, age 81, of Denver, Iowa, died Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Unity Point Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Ruth was born on May 28, 1935, in Whittemore, Iowa, the daughter of Guy and Ursula (Walsh) Farrell. Ruth graduated from New Hampton High School in 1953. In 1954, she went to work for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and retired from U.S. West Telephone Company in 1997. On April 9, 1956, Ruth was united in marriage to Vern Meihost at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City, Iowa.

Ruth was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Waterloo and a longtime member of Secret Pals. Ruth enjoyed Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Bears football, however, what she enjoyed most was spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Ruth's memory is honored by: five children, Connie Meihost of Waterloo, Iowa, Karen (Dave) Sporrer of Templeton, Iowa, Craig (Lynne) Meihost of Norwalk, Iowa, Linda (Brian) Queck of Johnston, Iowa, and Linette (Craig) Bartling of Omaha, Nebraska; nine grandchildren, Brad (Christina) Bartling, Ryan Bartling, Klay Queck, Kari (Justin) Perry, Aaron (Meghan) Bartling, Kris Queck, Jason Meihost, Amber Bartling, and Kacey Meihost; three great grandchildren, Braelyn and Caiden Bartling and baby Perry on the way; a brother, Earl Farrell of Clinton, Iowa; brother-in-law, Bill Kyle; sisters-in-law, Darlene Farrell, Mary Farrell, and Mary Meihost and many nieces and nephews who loved their "Aunt Ruthie." Ruth was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband on March 19, 2009; two brothers, Ed and Mike Farrell; three sisters, Rita Hutton, Jeannie Kyle, and Mary Farrell in infancy; sisters-in-law, Bev Farrell and Jo Ann Meihost; and three brothers-in-law, Paul Meihost, Raymond Meihost, and Darrell Hutton.

Visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a scripture service at 8:00 p.m. and one hour prior to Mass on Tuesday. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 10, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Waterloo with Father Dave Ambrosy and Deacon Ed Weber officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo. Memorials may be directed to Queen of Peace Catholic Church or St. Jude's Children's Hospital and online condolences may be left at 319-984-5379
