Ronald Alex Swinton, 54, of Nashua, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at his home after a courageous battle with Esophageal Cancer.
Ron was born January 18, 1955, in Charles City, Iowa, the son of Vernon and Donna (Niemeyer) Swinton. He attended school in Waverly until entering the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he served and worked with police dogs and their training. He was honorably discharged in 1975 and returned to Waverly. Ron worked for several businesses in and around Waverly before becoming a welder at Koehring Cranes (Terex) until 1997. On June 13, 1998, he was united in marriage to Cristina Licht in an outdoor wedding at their home in Nashua. He worked for Gordon's Music (a family owned business), did numerous floor installations and worked construction. Ron then went to work for Legal Eagle Trading Co.; a vending company that allowed Ron to tour the country while working at motorcycle events. He and Cristina made many, many friends during this time with Legal Eagle. He was most recently employed as a heavy equipment operator for Cole Excavating in Greene.
Ron loved life, motorcycles (especially Triumph and Harley Davidson), attending rallies, and helping others. He had battled Esophageal Cancer since his diagnosis in January of 2009.
Survivors include his wife Cristina, children; Benjamin Licht of Waverly, and Joy Swinton of Waverly, parents; Vernon and Donna Swinton of Waverly, one sister Sandra Swinton of Waverly, one brother Scot (Opie) and his wife Laurie Swinton of Waverly, two grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2009, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with inurnment in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
