Robert E. Minnaert, 80, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Sunday, August 13, 2006 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Bob was born on May 16, 1926, the son of Edward and Frances (Koehn) Minnaert in Brooklyn, Iowa. He graduated from Waverly High School in 1945. Bob served with the US Army in the east coast from June 27, 1945 until his discharge in November 11, 1946. On August 14, 1949, he was united in marriage to Marlys Otto at Immanuel Lutheran Church – Klinger rural Readlyn, Iowa. The couple made their home in Readlyn until 1973, when they moved to Waverly, Iowa. Bob was employed at the Waverly Newspapers as a pressman for 35 years, retiring in 1984.

He volunteered at Allen Hospital for 10 years and helped deliver meals on wheels. Bob was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and American Legion, Post 176 of Waverly, Iowa. He liked to hunt, fish, do wood working, bowling and play cards. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Bob is survived by his wife, Marlys of Waverly, Iowa; children, Terri Minnaert of Palos Heights, Illinois, Debbie (Fred) DeLaria of Norwalk, Iowa, Jody (Marty) Sprock of West Des Moines, Iowa, Dave (Angie) Minnaert of Waverly, Iowa and Jeff Minnaert of Des Moines, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, Chad, Danielle, Megan, Jamie, Natasha, Missy, Jaclyn, Kristin and Katelyn; 6 great grandchildren and by a sister, Delores Anhalt of Yellville, Arkansas. His parents and a brother-in-law, Paul Anhalt preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa. Burial will be in the Harlington Cemetery with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post 176 of Waverly, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa and one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be left to the donor’s choice.
