Robert ''Bob'' C. Knapp, 80, of Janesville, Iowa, died Monday, March 24, 2003, at his home as a result of a yard accident.
Bob was born on February 8, 1923, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the son of Fred and Mabel (Shining) Knapp. The family made their home on the family farm near Janesville where Bob attended school until graduating from Janesville High School in 1940. Following school, Bob worked at Rath Packing until being inducted into the Navy on November 29, 1943. After being honorably discharged on April 19, 1946, Bob moved back to Cedar Falls. On October 18, 1947, Bob was united in marriage to Kathleen Elaine Karas in the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple made their home in Janesville where Bob did a four year internship with John Deere. Following his internship he went to work for Schoitz Engineering for a short time until returning to John Deere where he was a manager of the Processing Department. Bob worked for John Deere for 34 years, retiring in August 1987. After retiring from John Deere, Bob spent his time traveling with his wife, Kathleen, gardening, fishing, and watching high school and college sports. Bob enjoyed spending much of his time with his family. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren.
Bob was a member of the Janesville United Methodist Church, a charter member of the Janesville Lions, American Legion Post #522 in Janesville, Masonic Lodge, and an active member of the City Council.
Bob is survived by his wife Kathleen of Janesville; his daughter Debra Hansen and her husband John of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; his son Scott Knapp and his wife Kim of Janesville; four grandchildren, Madeleine Hansen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Rachel Knapp of Iowa City, Bryce and Betsy Knapp both of Janesville; two sisters, Ethel Roever of Janesville, Edith Staley of Cedar Falls; and one sister-in-law, Alice Muriel Knapp of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, George.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2003, at 11:00 A.M. at the Janesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Diane Mitchell officiating. Burial will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Janesville. The family will be greeting friends at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, on Wednesday from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
