Richard “Smitty” Smith, 65, of Denver, Iowa passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018 at his residence in Denver.
Rick was born on December 5, 1953, the son of Clifford and Marjorie (Lynch) Smith in Waterloo, Iowa. He graduated from East High School in Waterloo and graduated from UNI. On April 6, 1974, he was united in marriage to Carmen S. Klunenberg in Evansdale, Iowa.
Rick loved spending time with family, playing cribbage and 500, bird watching, taking his dog on walks, coin collecting, watching sports especially the Hawkeyes, Packers, UNI Panthers, Cubs and Twins, playing Big 10 fantasy football and watching old movies and TV shows.
Survivors are his wife, Carmen Smith of Denver, Iowa; two sons, A.J. (Kara) Smith of Wilmette, Illinois and Matt Smith of New Lenox, Illinois; daughter, Angie Smith of Ramsey, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Kailey, Brenden, Devin, Addie and Miles and one brother, Chuck Smith of Mooresville, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vicki.
The Smith family will have a Celebration of Life on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 4:00 until 8:00pm at the Willow Run Country Club in Denver. A private burial will take place at a later date.
