Ramona Fay Nelson, 88, of Waterloo, IA and formerly of Denver, IA, passed away on December 23, 2016, at Rosewood Estate in Waterloo.

Ramona was born on August 3, 1928, in Braham, MN, the daughter of Helen Sophie (Anderson) and Peter Raymond Erickson. Ramona graduated from Braham High School in 1946. She then attended St. Cloud State Teachers College and graduated in 1948, earning an AA Degree. On June 19, 1954, Ramona was united in marriage to Roger J. Nelson at the Stanchfield Baptist Church, in Stanchfield, MN. The couple made their home in Lincoln, NE, and then moved to Cedar Falls, IA. Ramona taught Elementary school for six years in Mora, MN, St. Louis Park, MN and Lincoln, NE. In 1996, Ramona and Roger moved to Denver, IA. Roger passed away on January 4, 2008, and Ramona continued living in Denver until January of 2016, when she moved to the Rosewood Estate in Waterloo.

Ramona was a dedicated member of Grace Baptist Church in Waverly. During her lifetime, Ramona taught Sunday school, AWANA, and served in various positions for the Baptist General Conference. She was an avid gardener and was a member of the Cedar Falls Garden Club. Ramona also liked flower arranging and paper crafting, and entered her projects to be judged at the National Cattle Congress in Waterloo. She enjoyed bird watching, playing the piano and organ, and especially spending time with her family and friends.

Ramona is survived by three sons, Randy (Donna) Nelson of Milpitas, CA, Rick (Kim) Nelson of Cedar Rapids, IA and Ronald Nelson of Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Roslynn (Creighton) Long of Burnsville, MN; five granddaughters, Amber (Alex) Rivas, Julie Nelson, Erika Nelson, Heather Long and Amanda Long; two brothers, Wendell (Kathryn) Erickson and Charles Erickson; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger; and one brother, Kenneth Erickson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, December, 29, 2016, at Grace Baptist Church in Waverly, IA, with Pastor Jim Lee officiating. A private family burial will be held on December 31, 2016 in Stanchfield Baptist Church Cemetery in Stanchfield, MN. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation, and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
