Obituary

Phil Lee Stadtlander, 63, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Unity Point-Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.

Phil was born on July 30, 1953, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Violet (Stighorst) and Harry Adams. At the age of 3, he was adopted by Bernice (Plagge) and Leonard Stadtlander, and was raised in rural Latimer. He graduated from Cal Community High School in 1971. On June 9, 1973, Phil was united in marriage to Jill Christine Willey, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. The couple lived and raised their family in Waverly. Jill passed away in April of 1992.

Over the years, Phil worked at John Deere Foundry Operations, sold insurance for A. L. Williams Life Insurance Company, drove semi-truck for West Side Transportation, and worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Denver Sunset Home and Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. For enjoyment, he liked to ride his Harley, play guitar, collect guns, camp and travel. Phil had a strong personal faith, and a very unique personality. He really loved life, but above all, he loved his family.

Phil is survived by his son, Nathan Stadtlander of Waterloo; his daughter, Shelby Stadtlander of Waverly; four brothers, James Adams of Augusta, GA, Bill (Robbie) Albertson of Tiffin, IA, Andrew (Debra) Augustine of Oxford, IA, and Anthony Adams of Augusta, GA; five sisters, Glenda Dickerson of Oskaloosa, IA, Velma (Albert) Green of Clarkshill, SC, Nina Cole of North Augusta, SC, Tina (Mark) Price of Evans, GA, and Patricia (Rob) Baltz of Mt. Airy, MD; a former significant other, Susan Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Jill, his son Jay Paul Stadtlander in November of 1998; his parents; and his sister, Sandra Coder.
