Paul D. Homan, 59, of 208 1st Ave. NW, Waverly, Iowa, died Sunday, July 20, 2003, of natural causes while tending his AgRestore Research Acres north of Waverly.
Paul was born on March 15, 1944, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Eleanora (Pries) Homan. He was baptized and later confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church-Artesian. He attended parochial school at St. Paul's Artesian and then the Tripoli High School where he graduated in 1962. Paul then attended Ellsworth Junior College in Iowa Falls for two years, and in 1964 he was drafted into the US Army during the Viet Nam War. Paul served as a Chaplain's Assistant during his tour of duty and following his discharge he returned to Waverly. Paul began helping his mother on the farm because Paul's father had died in 1964. During this time he also attended Wartburg College where he received his degree in Sociology. Paul then started organic farming and also developed a relationship with Wonder Life Corp., a company that specialized in organic soil management. In 1979, Paul was united in marriage to Terri Woolsey. The couple made their home in Waverly and Paul continued to farm and work with Wonder Life. Wonder Life discontinued business, and in 1988 Paul began AgRestore, a similar business, which he currently owned and operated. Terri and Paul had divorced, but have remained friends and confidants.
Paul had an extremely close, and innate connection with the soil. The land was indeed his greatest passion.
He is survived by his daughter, Heather C. Homan of Woodbury, Minnesota; his son, Matthew D. Homan of Waverly; and by his former wife, Terri L. Homan of Waverly. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Burdene Rathe.
Family and Church conducted memorial services will be 1:00 PM on Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church, Waterloo. There will be no visitation, Paul's body was cremated. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home was in charge of cremation.
