Norma Jean Zahn, (81) of Waverly, Iowa, and formerly of Dubuque, Iowa died on Christmas morning following a courageous battle with cancer.
Norma was born on September 2, 1935, in Butler County, Iowa, the daughter of Tom and Etta (Reiter) Dreesman. She was confirmed on April 29, 1955, in Plainfield. She attended grade school in Butler County through the 8th grade. On November 25th, 1966, Norma was united in marriage to Franklin Zahn at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Norma worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Cedar Falls, Mueller Cleaners in Waverly, Spotless Cleaners in Waterloo, and as a Supervisor and Secretary in the family cleaning business in Dubuque. In 1997, Norma and Frank entered the Mission Field and spent many winters traveling and helping others in restoration missions.
Norma is currently a member of Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly and through her life has been a member of four United Church of Christ Churches. In her spare time she enjoyed playing cards, cooking, baking, reading, and traveling. What gave Norma the most joy was spending time with her two sons and their families.
Norma is survived by her loving husband of over 50 years, Frank Zahn of Waverly; two sons and their wives, Daniel J. (Shelley) of Dubuque, Darin L. (Karen) of Colfax; three grandchildren, Tyler and Ethan of Dubuque and Jessica of Colfax; five brothers, Ernest Dreesman of Waverly, Eugene (Betty) Dreesman of Clarksville, Larry (Mary) Dreesman of Frederika, Fred (Kay) Dreesman of Waverly, Dick (Velda) Dreesman of Waverly; one sister, Esther Lageschulte of Waverly. Norma was proceeded in death by her parents; her adopted son Niels Fredericksen of Kolding, Denmark; a sister and her husband, Angeline (Andrew) Shipper; a sister-in-law, Barb Dreesman; a brother-in-law, Chester Lageschulte; and a nephew, Rod Dreesman.
Public visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 PM on Friday December 30th at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday December 31st, at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly with Pastor Jon Hennings and Associate Pastor Craig Hancock officiating. Cremation will follow the service and burial will be held in the Harlington Cemetery in Waverly at a later date.
