Naoma McBride, 91, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Tuesday evening, April 23, 2019 at her residence in Waverly.
Naoma McBride was born on January 24, 1928, the daughter of Otto and Laura (Bockhaus) Brase in Richland Township at her parent’s home. She was baptized on January 30, 1928 at home and confirmed on March 29, 1942 at St. Paul Lutheran Church - Siegel. Naoma received her education in Richland Township Country School in Chickasaw County. On October 11, 1947, she was united in marriage to John McBride at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - Siegel. The couple lived on a farm north of New Hampton on the same farm as John’s folks. In 1949, they moved to the Shirley farm in Bremer County and in March of 1963, they moved to Naoma’s home place in Chickasaw County, rural Ionia. A few years later, the couple purchased the farm. She and John both worked for REC as a meter reader’s and she also helped John on the farm. John passed away on July 2, 2004 and Naoma continued to live on the farm until September 14, 2010, when she moved to an apartment in Waverly.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederika, Frederika Senior Citizens and Douglas Township Women’s Club. Naoma enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing cards and gardening where she and John would sell their produce at the Waverly Farmer’s Market, and was known for her homemade potato salad.
Survivors are her son, Roger (Linda) McBride of Humboldt, Iowa; two daughters, Mary (Ted) Scheidel of Shell Rock, Iowa and Judy (Keith) Zeigler of Robins, Iowa; 7 grandchildren, Carolyn Ollie and her friend, Stephen, Melissa (Aaron) Eilers, Kristopher (Heather) McBride, Caleb (Kyle) Scheidel, Kaitlin (Joseph) Hall, Dani (Pat) Kremer and Nicole (Mike) Flockhart and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John McBride; son, Gary McBride at birth; grandson, Levi Scheidel; granddaughter, Megan Zeigler and brother, Elmer Brase.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 10:30 am at St. John Lutheran Church in Frederika, Iowa. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also on Monday at the church an hour prior to the service.
