Born in Charles City, Iowa
Resided in Waverly, IA

Max (Tim) Howard Wood, 83, of Waverly, Iowa went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 4, 2017 at Unity Point Health - Allen Memorial in Waterloo, Iowa.

He was born in Marble Rock, Iowa on November 16, 1933, the son of Leo and Myrtle (Castle) Wood. He attended school in Marble Rock and started work at age 14 on his brother-in-law’s farm in Colwell, Iowa. He entered the US Army in 1953, and was stationed in Korea for 2 years. He served in the sixth armored division.

In 1958, he married Joan Janet Randall at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He moved his family from the farm to Waverly to work at John Deere Implement. He later worked as full-time fireman in Waverly for several years. During that time he also worked part-time at Kirkies Massy Ferguson Implement, which later led to part ownership. Over Max’s career he was owner and operator of Waverly’s Fire Extinguisher Sales and Service and Waverly Radiator Shop.

Some of his hobbies included stock car racing for 12 years at the Big Four Speedway in Nashua and at West Union and Midway Track in Charles City. He had also enjoyed camping, boating and taking care of his former acreage. He loved watching Hawkeye basketball games, old westerns on TV as well as The Andy Griffith Show and American Pickers. Max looked forward to playing Bingo weekly with his Ledges friends.

Max was a gifted socially - within 5 minutes, a stranger became a friend. His warm personality and contagious laughter demonstrated his love of life and of people. He had an amazing positive outlook and you never heard him complain or criticize.

He attended First Baptist Church in Waverly for nearly 40 years and firmly believed in Jesus’ words from the Bible. He realized his personal need of a Savior and called on Jesus to forgive his sins. He trusted in Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”

Max is survived by his wife, Joan Wood of Waverly, Iowa; 3 sons, Rick (Debbie) Wood of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Kevin Wood of Toddville, Iowa and Tim Wood of Waverly, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Chris (Tina) Adams of Gilbert, Arizona, Amy Wood of Breezy Point, Minnesota, Justin Wood of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Trevor Wood of Minneapolis, Minnesota; 2 great grandchildren, Brook and Braxton Adams of Gilbert, Arizona.
