Mary P. Homan,83, of Waverly, Iowa, died on Saturday, June 7, 2003, at her daughters home of natural causes.
Mary was born on June 11, 1919, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of James and Mary Sparano. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein and graduated from the Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1937. Later she and her sister, Carolyn moved to Cedar Rapids and went to work for Collins Radio. On November 25, 1945, she was united in marriage to Lester ''Buff'' Homan at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. The couple made their home in Waverly, Iowa. Over the years Mary has donated many hours to both St. Mary's Catholic Church and also the Amvets Post #79. Buff died on June 24, 1987.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waverly, Amvets Post #79 and also a member of the D.A.V.
Mary is survived by one son and his wife, Brian and Donna Homan of Deep River, Connecticut; one daughter and her husband, Carol and Bill Klick of Waverly, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Nathan Milius, Randi Brandt, Nicole Leisinger, Jennifer Homan and Andy Leisinger; two great grandchildren, Jordan and Abbey Brandt; and one brother and his wife, Joe and Betty Sparano of ion, Iowa. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, ''Buff,'' one brother, Ralph Sparano and two sisters, Yolanda Lasley and Carolyn McCallum.
Celebration of Life Services will be held on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at 10:00 A.M. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Rev. Jim Miller presiding. Burial will be held in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Waverly. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to either Cedar Valley Hospice Waverly, Iowa, or Disabled American Veterans Association.
