Mary L. Bogan, 56, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at her residence in Waverly, Iowa.
Mary was born on February 8, 1962 in St Joseph Mercy Hospital, Waverly, IA. Her parents were Larry and Myrna Krull Bogan of Clarksville. She grew up, went to school and spent most of her life in Waverly. She had three sisters; Sherry Lynn Johnson (deceased), Rhonda Jean Fiske, and Kimberly Ann Bogan, of Waverly, Iowa.
Mary’s best times were spent sewing Barbie and Ken clothes with amazing detail. She also liked riding her bicycle all over town rain or shine, snow or sun. She loved going for car rides in the country to see if she and the driver could get lost, but she was always able to direct staff back home! Mary was insightful and honest when talking with people; she had a way of seeing people for what was in their heart. Mary was not always understood by the people of the community but Waverly was always very important to Mary. She cared about others, frequently asking how someone was doing or casting out a compliment. She had a style all her own, from the creations she made out of denim jeans to her short leather jacket and braids in her hair.
Mary educated herself by reading the dictionary then talking about different things she had learned. She enjoyed going on the trips and activities with a local group and was always up for a new adventure. Mary struggled to overcome obstacles in her mind throughout her life but had seemed to come to peace with a great deal over the past few years. She was a daily visitor of Kwik Star and had touched many lives walking through the door. Mary loved animals and terribly missed her birds when she had to give them up. Mary will be terribly missed by many!
Mary is survived by her son Chris Nieman, and her sisters, Kimberly and Rhonda, many friends from Community Based Services and the community of Waverly. She was preceded in death by her long-time boyfriend Seth Nieman, her parents, one sister and dear friend Willis Nolte.
