Mary C. (Stowell) Heise, 82, of Shell Rock, Iowa, died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Unity Point – Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo
Mary was born on October 1, 1934 in Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Edward and Ruth Claire) (Mackaman) Stowell. She attended and graduated from St. Mary's Catholic School in Waterloo in 1953. Following her schooling, Mary worked 6 years for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. On July 25, 1959, she was united in marriage to Nathan H. Heise at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. The couple made their home in Waterloo, moving in 1966 to a farm south of Shell Rock. The couple then moved to a farm in Clarksville and in 1969 purchased the Heise family farm in rural Shell Rock where they made their home. In August of 2015, Mary made her home at the Martin Center in Cedar Falls.
Mary was attending St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, was a member of the Shell Rock American Legion Auxiliary, was active with Stanley Home Products, and a member of the West Fork Stitch & Chatter Club. Mary enjoyed dancing with her husband, Nate, playing 500 with friends and neighbors. She loved movies, Johnny Depp and lived to see her beloved Cubs win the World Series. But most importantly she loved spending time with her family. Mary was one of a kind and those that knew her, would know that she spoke her mind.
Mary is survived by her husband, of over 56 years, Nathan H. Heise of Shell Rock, Iowa; five children, Colleen (James) Franzen of Waverly, twin sons, Jeff (Shelly) Heise, Waverly, Tim (Tracey) Heise of New Hartford, David (Natalie) Heise of Hokah, Minnesota, Christine Heise of Shell Rock; 15 great grandchildren, Valerie (Matt) Chesnut, Justin Franzen, Adam (Megan) Heise, Amber Tiedt, Andy Heise, Daniel Heise, Adessa Buss, Anastasia Buss, Julia Heise, Jenae (Leah) Jorgensen, Nick Heise, Jordan Heise, Marcy Heise, Charles Heise, Justus Heise; 11 grandchildren, Hayden, Tacey, Oliver Chesnut, Nattallee Brinkman , Mason, Dayton, Bentley, Kyeton, Brooklyn Heise, Sincere Buss and Elise Tiedt. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; a half-sister, Charlotte Owen; a great grandson, Logan Tiedt; and her pet cat, Bubba Lou.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 10:30 a.m at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, with Fr. David Schatz presiding. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Shel Rock. Visitation will be held at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock on Thursday, December 29th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Nathan Heise family.
