Marlan G. Matthias, 59, of rural Readlyn, Iowa, died on Thursday, July 5, 2012 at his home surrounded by loved ones after bravely battling cancer.
Marlan Gene Matthias was born on February, 12, 1953, the son of Alvin and Irene (Bahe) Matthias in Waterloo, Iowa. On March 8, 1953, he was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger. He attended Immanuel Lutheran school of Klinger and graduated from Dunkerton high school in 1971. On August 28, 1976, he was united in marriage to Andrea Louise Martin at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Marlan was a lifetime farmer, he worked at Specialty Wire in Sumner and most recently was employed at Readlyn Co-op.
He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger where he served as a trustee. Marlan enjoyed going to tractor pulls and farm machinery auctions, but the moments he cherished most, were those with his wife, children and grandsons.
Survivors are his wife, Andrea of Readlyn; three daughters, Marcy Matthias of Des Moines, Denise Matthias of Cedar Falls and Elizabeth (Kyle) Heineman of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Vince (Wendy) Matthias of Readlyn and Brian (Stephanie) Matthias of Denver; two grandsons, Daniel and Dylan; his mother, Irene Matthias of Denver; four brothers, Romane (Janice) Matthias of Cresco, Leon Matthias of Norwalk, Galen (Betty) Matthias of Shell Rock and Lyle (Suzanne) Matthias of Monroeville, Indiana; and many dear nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alvin Matthias; father and mother-in-law, Daniel and Marion (Yavorsky) Martin and by a nephew, Douglas Matthias.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, July 9, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Klinger, rural Readlyn. Burial will be held in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Klinger. Public visitation will be held on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Readlyn and for one hour prior to the services on Monday at the church.
