Marilyn May Stirlen, 88, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Tuesday, September 17, 2013 at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Marilyn was born on October 1, 1924, the daughter of Dewey and Margery May (Rubins) Miner in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. On November 6, 1942, she was united in marriage to Ned N. Stirlen in Lancaster, Missouri. During the early years of their marriage and the births of their five children they lived in Sigourney. In 1967, they moved to Waverly. Marilyn worked at Rohlf Memorial Clinic as a secretary for 25 years.
She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly and 64 year member of the P.E.O. She volunteered for many organizations and especially for Trinity United Methodist Church. She was truly blessed by the many wonderful friends she had in the Waverly community.
Survivors are her two sons, Steve (Elba) Stirlen of Rockford, Illinois and Jim (Virginia) Stirlen of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; two daughters, Susan (Jerry) Dixon of LaPine, Oregon and Kathy Stirlen of Lafayette, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; Selena, Coley, Benjamin, Amber, Jenny, Lisa, Neal, Christy, Stacy, Britne and Brooke; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Bee Gray of Ankeny, Iowa; two special nieces and nephew, Jayne Goerdt, Julie Hoogland and John Gray and daughter-in-law, Miko Stirlen of Montgomery Village, Maryland. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ned in 2002 and son, Bill Stirlen in 1995.

Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at 11:00 am at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor Deborah Coble Wise officiating. Marilyn's request that her body be cremated and there will be no public visitation. The family will greet family and friends an hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be directed to either Trinity United Methodist Church, Cedar Valley Hospice of Waverly or Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community and online condolences for Marilyn may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
