Margaret Johanna Kemming, 100, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on May 14, 2019, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
Margaret was born on December 23, 1918, the daughter of Adelgunda (Hesse) and Adolf Boldt on a farm near Readlyn, Iowa, where she grew up and attended school at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Readlyn. In 1941, Margaret was united in marriage to Chris Kemming in Manchester, Iowa. While raising their family in Waverly, Margaret was a homemaker and also a school lunch lady for the Waverly-Shell Rock School District, retiring in the mid 1980’s. Chris died in 1970, and Margaret continued to live in the family home for many years.
Margaret was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly. She was hard working, and a very calm and stoic lady. She loved cooking and baking and always made the holidays seem special; she always had treats for the grandkids. She also knitted and sewed clothes for her children, and doll clothes for her grandchildren. Margaret loved having her children and grandchildren frequently stop at her house. After moving to Bartels, the visits continued every Sunday afternoon.
Margaret is survived by six children, Richard Kemming of Waverly, Steve (Becky) Kemming of Waverly, Jane Kemming of Waverly, Bonnie (John) Calton of Coralville, Iowa, Rebecca (Jerry) Wyatt of Waverly, and Mike (Kathy) Kemming of Waverly; six grandchildren, Samantha (Nate) Flaherty, Christine (Scott Wilbur) Calton, Cindee (Tony Fanchi) Calton, Benjamin Wyatt, Kaylee Kemming and Chris Kemming; one great-granddaughter, Penelope Calton-Wilbur; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chris; her parents; and two brothers, Walter and Elston Boldt.
Following a private funeral service, Margaret’s body will be laid to rest in Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to Cedar Valley Hospice, and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family. 319-352-1187
