Luella Boevers, 90, of Waverly, Iowa, died on August 19, 2003, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community of natural causes.
Luella was born on December 17, 1912, on the family farm east of Waverly, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Oltrogge) Meyer. She married Paul Boevers on December 26, 1933. The couple then farmed near Readlyn and later moved to a farm north of Waverly in 1941. They lived on their farm until Paul's death in 1972. Luella moved to a home in Waverly and then spent her last years at the Eichhorn House and the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community.
Luella was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau, Waverly Garden Club, and served as a Pink Lady at the Waverly Municipal Hospital.
Luella is survived by one daughter, Mary Ellen Junk and her husband, Bob, of Denver, Colorado; one granddaughter, Angie Junk of Denver, Colorado; two brothers, Harley Meyer of Waverly and Willard Meyer of San Diego, California; one sister-in-law, Arlene Meyer of Waverly; and one brother-in-law, Bill Liebau of Waverly; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one sister, Louise Liebau; and two brothers, Alfred Meyer and Carl Meyer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 23, 2003, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community or the Bartels Chaplaincy Fund, in lieu of flowers.
