Lucille Mae Downing, 93, of Clarksville and formerly of Waverly, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at the Clarksville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Lucille was born on May 27, 1924, in Readlyn, Iowa, the daughter of Louie and Ann (Hinrichs) Everding. Lucille was baptized on June 15, 1924 and was confirmed on March 26, 1939. She attended grade school in Tripoli and graduated from Waverly High School. She was happily married to James Russell Downing for 26 years.
Lucille enjoyed crocheting, knitting and cooking. She was always willing to lend a helping hand and often found a way to include a quick joke into conversations. She was known for being a joy to be around. Her two grandsons were very special to her.
Lucille is survived by her son, Jay “Scott” Downing and his wife, Tracy of Culver, Oregon; two grandsons, Brandt Downing and Lane Downing; a nephew, Terry Kleinschmidt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and a foster brother, Paul Bierie of Anamosa, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Viviann E. Kleinschmidt; and a brother-in-law, William “Bill” Kleinschmidt.
Burial of her cremains will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Waverly with Pastor Patricia Shaw officiating.
