LuVern E. Homeister, 79, of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Covenant Medical Center.
LuVern was born on July 25, 1925, in rural Bremer County, the son of William and Hermina (Eikemeier) Homeister. He attended school in Spring Branch #8 School in Washington Township near Waverly. Following school, LuVern worked for local neighbors on their farms. He later began working in a canning factory in Waverly until going into partnership farming the family farm, which was a Century Farm, with his brother Henry. On July 3, 1974, LuVern was united in marriage to Selma Larson-Wrage in Reinbeck, Iowa. The couple made their home on his farm. Selma died on September 23, 1983. LuVern continued to live on the farm until moving to the Waverly Manor in September 2004.
LuVern was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. He enjoyed drawing in his early years, traveling, doing puzzles, driving his tractor, mowing and maintaining the woods, loved nature and he especially enjoyed spending time with his family.
LuVern is survived by his sister-in-law, Doris Homeister of Springfield, Missouri; by many nieces and nephews; many great nieces and nephews; many great-great nieces and nephews; his step children and their families and by his brothers and sisters-in-law. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Selma; two brothers, Henry and Loranz Homeister; and by one sister, Hilda Gabe.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 22, 2004, at 11:00 A.M. at Peace United Church of Christ in Waverly, with Pastor Jon Hennings officiating. Burial will be held at Reinbeck Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, the church or to the family.
