Kenton Ray (Kenny) Stoddard, 65, of Waverly, Iowa, died Friday evening, January 6, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center, Waterloo, Iowa from complications of cancer.
Kenton was born on November 25, 1946, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Harry Ellsworth and Dorothy I. (Waidelich) Stoddard. Kenton was baptized in Waverly at Rev. Harold Roschke's home and confirmed in Shell Rock at Faith Lutheran Church. He attended school in Shell Rock and Waverly, graduating from the Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1965. Kenton worked at Deike Implement from 1965-1966 and then entered the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. Following his discharge in 1968, Kenton returned to Shell Rock and continued working at Deike Implement until 1973. From 1973 until 2005, he worked for Koehring Cranes (Terex) for a total of 32 years. On July 24, 1976, Kenton was united in marriage to Carol Jacobs at St. John Lutheran Church in Clarksville. The couple made their home on their family farm, north of Waverly, which Ken purchased in 1971.
Kenton was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly. He was also a member of the Waverly V.F.W. Post # 2208, Waverly American Legion Post #176, Cattlemen's Association and Whitetails Unlimited. In his spare time he enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, farming, traveling, working in his shop and visiting with everyone.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Stoddard of Waverly, Iowa; his son, Wayne Stoddard and his daughter, Gayle Stoddard both of Waverly; his mother, Dorothy Stoddard of Waverly; an aunt, uncle and a few cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Harry on September 26, 1949.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Paul Schaedig officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #176 immediately following the funeral service. Public visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 10th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. at the Horton Cemetery, rural Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family.
