Kathryn A. Montgomery, 91, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Waverly Health Care Center in Waverly, Iowa.
Kathryn was born on October 15, 1913, the daughter of Andrew and Elise (Olsen) Christensen in Audubon, Iowa. She attended school up to the 5th grade and then quit school to help take care of her ill mother. On August 5, 1933, she was united in marriage to LeRoy Montgomery at the Methodist Church in Jefferson, Iowa. The couple moved to Ionia, Iowa in 1944 and in the 1950’s, they moved to New Hampton, Iowa. In 1962, she moved to Guthrie Center, Iowa to take care of her father. And in 1963, she moved to Waverly and resided here ever since. Kathryn was employed at various cafes in Waverly. She also purchased apartment buildings in Waverly and was a landlord. She became a resident of the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in October of 2004. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing in her younger years, reading her bible, flower gardening and her cats. She was a member of the Kazoozie Susies band.
Survivors are her daughter and husband, Marjorie and Robert Haugh of Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren, Bob (Jennie) Haugh, Jim Haugh, Sue (Lynn)Cowden, Dave (Linda) Haugh, Cindy Haugh and Becky (Dan) Keller; 13 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; two brothers, LeRoy (Mary) Christensen of Ankeny, Iowa and C.T. (Juanita) Christensen of Belton, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, LeRoy in 1961; infant daughter, Deloris; sister, Anna Grow and by two brothers, Paul and Nels Christensen.
Funeral services will held on Thursday, February 24, 2005 at 11:00 am at the First Baptist Church in Waverly, Iowa with Pastor Brian L. Wilkins officiating. Burial will be in the New Hampton Cemetery in New Hampton. Friends may from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the family.
