Kathleen M. Homan, 87, of Waverly, died peacefully at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community early Saturday morning, December 16, 2006.
Kathleen Margaret Rassier was born in St. Joseph, Minnesota, on March 25, 1919, the only child of Nicholas A. and Mary Fiedler Rassier. She attended grade school and high school in St. Joseph and graduated from the College of St. Benedict in 1940.
She used her degrees in biology and chemistry to begin her career as a lab technician at Minneapolis General Hospital. During World War II personnel shortages gave her the opportunity to work at hospitals in Galena and Savanna, Illinois. A temporary assignment at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital brought her to Waverly in 1942. She later accepted a position at the Rohlf Memorial Clinic where she met and married Carl Homan. She interrupted her career to raise a family, but later returned to work at the Clinic until she retired.
After retirement Kathleen spent many hours visiting the ill and elderly of St. Mary’s parish. She also made quilts for pediatric patients and baked thousands of cookies for family and friends.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Carl, two half-sisters and a half-brother. She is survived by a daughter Mary Meyer of Denver, Colorado; two sons, David Homan and his wife Carol of Houston, Texas, and Mark Homan and his friend Karen Neff of Waverly; three grandchildren, Melody Haryanto (John), Carl Homan and Kelly Homan; two great-grandchildren; a niece Renee Parson; and a close family friend, Charlene Doyle.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. Visitation will be on Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
