Judy Ann Garner, age 67, of Tripoli, Iowa, died Friday March 8, 2019, at Tripoli Nursing Home & Rehab in Tripoli, Iowa.
Judy was born on April 7, 1951, in Sumner, Iowa, daughter of Lawrence & Glennis (Holm) Dettmer. She was baptized April 29, 1951 at St John’s UCC Waverly, Iowa. She was confirmed in 1965 at St John’s Lutheran Church, Crane Creek, Tripoli. She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1969 and received an Associate Degree from NIACC in Mason City. She married Steven Garner, January 19, 1974, they later divorced.
She was involved in many church functions as a council member, Sunday school teacher and a member of the education committee. She enjoyed reading and crocheting but her greatest joy came from spending time with family and friends, especially her three children and her grandchildren.
She is survived by her two sons, Nick Garner (Shirley Grantham), Waverly and Aaron Garner (Malinda Schroeder), Dallas Center, and her daughter Angie (Scott) Reisner, Sumner. Her four grandchildren Jackson, Addison, Brynlee and Ava. Her mother, Glennis Smith, Shell Rock. Four sisters Joyce (John) Lubben, Shell Rock, Karen (Richard) Milius, Tripoli, Linda (Will) Hamilton, Waverly, and Connie (Dwayne) Sessler, Shell Rock, one brother Duane Smith, South Dakota and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father Lawrence Dettmer, paternal and maternal grandparents, siblings Wanda Petersen, Bonnie Lou, Gary and Larry Dettmer, stepfather Merle “Bud” Smith, her children Mitchell and Michelle Garner and special friend Sam Davis.
Judy has been cremated and memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday March 13, at Kaiser Corson Funeral Home, Waverly with Pastor Kim Smith officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday March 12, at Kaiser Corson Funeral Home in Waverly from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation and online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
