Obituary

Judith Anne Cave Kahler, 73, of Waverly, Iowa, died Wednesday evening, October 12, 2011, at the Waverly Health Center of natural causes.

Judy was born on February 15, 1938, in Waverly, Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Genevieve (Hunter) Cave. On August 7, 1965, Judy was united in marriage to Walter E. "Wally" Kahler in Waverly. Together they raised 8 children. Ron (Shellie) Kahler, New Ulm, MN; Catherine (Marvin) Orth, Waverly, IA; Steven (Elaine) Kahler, Maquoketa, IA; Jan (Robin) Kahler, Waverly, IA; Kirby Kahler, Cedar Falls, IA; Kent (Val) Kahler, Hudson, IA; Kyle (Ashley) Kahler, Waverly, IA; Carrie Grebner, Waverly, IA. She was blessed with 23 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Judy also counted all of the children for whom she provided home daycare and the children she taught at Head Start Preschool in Waterloo as "Judy's Kids". She is also survived by three sisters, Janice (Thomas) Kay of Wheaton, IL; Virginia (John F. "Jack") Ruzicka of Charles City, IA; Rebecca (Richard) Radel of Stillwater, MN. Members of Walter's family also considered her their sister.

She attended Iowa State University where she was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority. She returned to Waverly and was the children's librarian at the public library. She later attended the University of Northern Iowa where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education. She then worked as the Coordinator of the Head Start Program at UNI-CUE in Waterloo. She was an active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, and a founding member of the Waverly Child Care and Preschool. Judy enjoyed children, music, prayer group and book club.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; parents, Earl and Genevieve Cave; grandson, SFC Matthew R. Kahler and a sister, Noma Cave.

Public visitation will be held at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, on Sunday, October 16, 2011, with the family present from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a Celebration of Life Service at 6:00 p.m. Private family burial with memorial service following on Monday October 17, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church in Waverly, with Rev. Deborah Coble Wise officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family, where a memorial fund will be established at a later date.
