Joseph “Joe” Allen Ackerson, 74, of Cedar Falls, died Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at UnityPoint-Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Joe was born September 8, 1944, in Cedar Falls, the son of Frank and Geraldine (Saul) Ackerson. He graduated from New Hartford High School with the class of 1963. On July 25, 1981, he was united in marriage to Barbara Wical at the First United Methodist Church in Cedar Falls.
Joe was employed with Benton’s Ready Mix for many years, retiring in 2009. He also farmed most of his life and did custom trucking and combining. He enjoyed farming, deer hunting, gardening and feeding his birds.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barb, of Cedar Falls, one son, Dustin Joseph Ackerson of Cedar Falls, two brothers, Jack (Linda) Ackerson of Geneva, Iowa and Dave Ackerson of New Hartford, two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Coates Sr. of New Hartford, Brian Wical of Janesville. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Dianne Coates and a sister-in-law, Kathy Ackerson.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, September 24, 2018, at the New Hartford United Methodist Church in New Hartford with Pastor Jerry Avise-Rouse officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, New Hartford. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 23, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the New Hartford United Methodist Church and for an hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
