John Erwin Moeller, age 70, of Waverly, Iowa, died Sunday, June 22, 2014, at his home.
John was born on June 9, 1944, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of John F. and Myrtle (Hill) Moeller. He was raised in Waverly and graduated from the Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1963. On September 11, 1965, John was united in marriage to Bonita "Bonnie" Cagley in Preston, Minnesota. He entered the United States Army Reserves in 1965 and served until 1969, when he was honorably discharged. In his early years John worked for Peter Vickers Filling Station in Waverly, Coonradt Ford in Waverly, as a construction worker, at John Deere in Waterloo, and for Viking Pump in Waterloo. In 1966, John began his 46 year career at Carnation / Nestle' in Waverly retiring in 2011.
John was a member of Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly, helping out by being a part of the Church Kitchen Crew. He was a past Senior League baseball coach and Boy Scout Leader. John was a man of few words instead he led by example. For instance he never missed work, sacrificed for his family, and always strove to be the best he could be. He enjoyed playing slow pitch, bowling, pheasant hunting, fishing, attending his children and grandchildren's sporting events, and taking care of his livestock in the back yard, aka birds, squirrels, deer, etcetera, however, what he enjoyed most was spending time with his family.
John's memory is honored by: wife, Bonnie Moeller of Waverly; three children, John (Jean) Moeller of Cedar Rapids, Jim (Andrea) Moeller of Waterloo, and Dana (Darin) Hollenbeck of Muscatine; mother, Myrtle Moeller of Shell Rock; nine grandchildren, Chris and Kate Roe, Nicole, Megan, Jayden, and Jarrett Moeller, and Emma, Dominic, and Daphne Hollenbeck; a great-grandson, Ayden Leuer; two sisters, Judy (Jim) Luchtenburg of Waverly and Collene (Kent) Vriezelaar of Sioux City; and best friend Ruby. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, at Heritage United Methodist Church in Waverly with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. John will then be cremated and private burial of cremains will be held at a future date.
