Joan M. Pence, 66, of Readlyn, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Unity Point Health - Allen Memorial in Waterloo, Iowa.
Joan Marie Pence was born on February 18, 1953, the daughter of Erwald and Blanche (Thies) Moeller in Waterloo, Iowa. She was baptized on March 8, 1953 and confirmed on March 19, 1967 both at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. Joan graduated from Wapsie Valley High School in May of 1971 and then from Waterloo School of Beauty in 1972. On December 16, 1973, she was united in marriage to Vincel Dean Bland and to this union was a daughter, Amity. The couple would later divorce in 1978. Joan worked at Beauty Boutique in Waverly from 1972 until 1978, and then started her own beauty shop in Readlyn called The Beauty Cellar from 1978 until 1995. On October 11, 1980, she was united in marriage to Robert Louis Pence and the couple divorced in 2001. From 1995 until 2000, she worked at Kay & L Draperies in Waverly and then at Kwik Star in Waverly before retiring in 2005.
She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Joan enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her granddaughter. She liked to go fishing, drag car racing, motorcycle trips, playing cards with friends, going to the music studio and traveling.
Survivors are her daughter, Amity (Kris) Astorp of Savage, Minnesota; significant other, Teri Lampe of Readlyn, Iowa; two grandchildren, Ethan and Addison Astorp; brother, Dale (Deb) Moeller of Dunkerton, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Private family prayer service will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 12 noon at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Readlyn with Rev. Dr. Jean Rabary officiating from Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 am until the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to Joan’s family for a later designation and online condolences for Joan maybe left at www.kaisercorson.com.
