Jerald William “Jerry” Quibell, 81, of Waverly, Iowa, died Monday, July 9, 2018, at Unity Point Health/Allen Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes.
Jerry was born on January 14, 1937, in Los Angeles, California, the son of Wilfred H. and Emma B. (Pichelmann) Quibell. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. When Jerry was 3 years old, the family moved to a farm north of Waverly, Iowa. In 1946, the family moved back to Los Angeles for a few months, again returning to Waverly. Jerry attending country school near Waverly for 2 years, California Schools for 2 years, Nashua School System for 2 years, and the Waverly School System for 6 years, graduating in 1957. Jerry had a bread route from 1954- 1956, worked for Richie Pontiac 1957-1959, and John Deere Tractor Works from 1960 until he retired in August of 1993.
On April 21, 1963, he was united in marriage to Karen K. Hoth at St. John Lutheran Church in Sumner, Iowa. The couple made their home in Waverly, where their only son Todd was born on May 11, 1964.
Jerry was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Waverly and the Waverly Archery Club. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, guns, fishing, swimming, roller skating, ice skating and classic/antique cars. But most of all he dearly loved taking rides in his truck with the love of his life, Karen. Their only grandson, Kyle, meant the world to Jerry and Karen, they really enjoyed the time spent with him.
Jerry is survived by his grandson, Kyle Quibell of Waverly; and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Emma in 1989, Wilfred, 1995, his son, Todd in 2014, and his wife Karen in 2015.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Waverly, with Pastor Jon M. Ellingworth officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly.
