Jennifer Elizabeth Squires, 70, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, May 12, 2018, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota following a sudden brain bleed she suffered at her home early Thursday morning, May 10th.

Jennifer was born on February 9, 1948, in Cresco, Iowa, the daughter of Ione Marie (Dinger) and Richard Maldwyn Jones. She was baptized on April 10, 1949, at the Methodist Church in Cresco and confirmed on June 15, 1975, at the American Lutheran Church in Jesup, Iowa. Jennifer attended school in Cresco, graduating from the Crestwood High School in 1966. She attended Winona State University where she received a B.A. in Mathematics with a minor in Library Science. She later attended Viterbo College in La Crosse, Wisconsin where she received her Masters of Art in Education in 1991. She taught High School mathematics in Sparta, Wisconsin, Michigan City, Indiana and Janesville, Iowa, retiring in 2008.

On June 19, 1971, she was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Russell Squires at the United Methodist Church in Cresco.

Jennifer was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. Jennifer had a great love for mathematics, education and reading with great interest in her Welsh and Irish genealogy and history, the Kennedys, the Royal Family and John Lennon. Jennifer’s greatest joy was her 6 grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many; she will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Bob Squires of Waverly, Iowa; her two sons, Matthew Squires and his wife Vanessa (Brandt) of Grimes, Iowa, and their 2 children Bronwyn Savannah (9) & Roman Matthew (6); Dr. Benjamin Squires and his wife, Maggie (Cousin) of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and their 4 children, Malissa Elizabeth “MeMe” (8), Molly Margaret (6), Meredith Jennifer “M.J.” (4) and Margaret Rose “Margot” (2). Jennifer is also survived by her 2 sisters and 2 brothers, Marlene Sovereign of Cresco, Iowa, Jackie (Roger) Strelow of Alexandria, Minnesota, Dick (Polly) Jones of Cresco, Iowa, and John (Julie) Jones of Rapid City, South Dakota; and many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews. Jennifer was preceded in death by her parents, Ione and Richard Jones, Brother-in-law, Wayne Sovereign, Mother-in-law, Ruth Squires and Father-in-law, Russell Squires.

Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, May 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School in Waverly, with Pastor Arthur Bergren officiating. Burial will be in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly. Public visitation will be held on Thursday, May 17th from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul’s Lutheran School Library. Online condolences for Jen’s family may be left at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family. 319-352-1187.
