James Henry Saul, 82, of New Hartford, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at UnityPoint-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa.
James was born March 29, 1936, in New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Earl and Cecelia (DeJaeger) Saul. He was baptized in May of 1936 and confirmed April of 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in New Hartford. He graduated from New Hartford High School in May of 1955. He served in the United States Army from 1958 until his honorable discharge in 1960. On September 30, 1961, he was united in marriage to Annie Crump at St. John’s Catholic Church in Waterloo, Iowa. He worked for Wagner Garage Doors for several years until beginning his career at John Deere Tractor Works in Waterloo in 1966. In December of 1995, he retired from John Deere.
James was a member of the New Hartford Lions Club, New Hartford City Council, and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parkersburg. He enjoyed doing puzzles, playing cards and bean bag toss. He liked to dance and go fishing. Above all, he cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.
James is survived by his wife of 56 ½ years Annie of New Hartford, three daughters; Cheryl (Tim) Asche of Shell Rock, Karen (Mark) Wedeking of Plainfield and Sandra Bush of Myrtle, Mississippi, five grandchildren; Cory (Heather) Asche, Tyler (Amy Krukow) Asche, Blake (Mercedes Janssen) Wedeking, Mitchell Bush and Mataya Bush, and six great grandchildren; Dalton, Makayla, Taylor, Faith, Hope and Douglas Asche, one sister; Luella (Don) Green of New Hartford, sister-in-law; Millie Saul of Parkersburg. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sons in infancy; James Richard and Charles Randall Saul, four brothers, two sisters and a grandson Chad Bush.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Parkersburg with Father David Kucera and Father Paul Lippstock officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in New Hartford. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 7, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and for an hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
