James Earl Simpson, age 76, of Waverly, Iowa and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Saturday, September 8, 2018, at his home surrounded by family.
Jim was born on September 11, 1941, in Washington, Iowa, the son of William and Margaret (Galloway) Simpson. He was raised in Cedar Falls and attended teacher college elementary and high school in Cedar Falls graduating in 1960. On July 20, 1974, Jim was united in marriage to Bonnie Jo Lampe at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. During his life he worked at Chamberlains Manufacturing in Cedar Falls and then at Terex Crane in Waverly for thirty years, retiring in 2004.
Jim was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly and assistant Scout Master for Troop 69 in Waverly. He enjoyed making wood furniture and toys, collecting scales, and fishing, however, what Jim enjoyed most was time with family, especially his grandchildren.
Jim’s memory is honored by: his wife Bonnie Simpson of Waverly, Iowa; a daughter, Shannon Simpson of Hawaii; two sons, Nicholas (Melissa) Simpson of Waverly, Iowa and Steven (Jen) Simpson of Tripoli, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Cherie Simpson of Omaha, Nebraska; eight grandchildren, Katrina Canty, Shasta Canty, Mika Canty, Samantha Simpson, Leah Johnson, Andrew Simpson, Emma Simpson, and Cole Simpson; five great-grandchildren, Matti, Gavin, Aria, and two on the way; father-in-law, Wendell Lampe of Shell Rock; a brother, Duane Simpson of Waverly, Iowa; and three brothers-in-law, Eugene (Marlene) Lampe of Hampton, Iowa, Roger (Ruth) Lampe of Waverly, Iowa, and Dan (Judy) Lampe of Waverly, Iowa. He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son, Scott Simpson; mother-in-law, Dorothy Lampe; and a sister-in-law, Jane Simpson.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 11, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Schools in Waverly with Pastor Arthur Bergren officiating.
