Ida Mae (Tilford) Mingus of Zephyrhills, Florida and formerly from Waverly, Iowa passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2012 at the Gulfside Regional Hospice in Zephyrhills.
Ida Mae was born on June 30, 1937, the daughter of Edwin and Helen (Nordman) Wedeking in Butler County, Iowa. Ida Mae was raised near Clarksville and graduated from the Clarksville High School. On December 4, 1955 she was united in marriage to Robert E. Tilford at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville, Iowa. The couple lived in Cedar Falls, Iowa until 1968, when they moved to Waverly, Iowa. Ida Mae spent her time as a homemaker, radio advertisement saleslady, and in 1984 Ida Mae and Robert owned and operated, Tillies Diner in Waverly. On March 10, 1988, Robert passed away and Ida Mae continued to live in Waverly. On April 3, 1992 she was united in marriage to DeWayne Mingus at the Red Mill Chapel in Waupaca, Wisconsin. The couple made their home in Clarksville, Prairie Du Chien, Wisconsin, and Zephyrhills, Florida.
She was a former member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly. Ida Mae's enjoyments included polka dancing, shopping, Women's World Magazine, helping others, sun bathing, traveling to different time shares, crocheting, and making Ida Mae's famous potato salad. What she enjoyed most, however, was spending time with her grand and great-grandchildren.
Survivors are her husband, DeWayne Mingus of Zephyrhills, Florida; three daughters, Kimberlee (Craig) Johnson of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Karmella (Jerald) Heuer of Clarksville, Iowa and Kristine (Monte) Bond of Clarksville, Iowa; four step-children, Larry (Pana) Mingus of Denver, Colorado, Susan Mingus of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Annette (Wally) Swiatly of Lake In The Hills, Illinois, and Joanna (Rob) Swiatly of Cedar Falls, Iowa; nine grandchildren, Carey (Jesse) Smith, Natalie (Ian) Sticht, Kayla ( Nathan) Riss, Heather Sells and friend Matthew Lukehart, Matthew (Tiffany) Heuer, Michelle (Merfit) Washington, and Matthew, Justin, and Levi Bond; five great-grandchildren, Payton and Quinn Riss, Rylan Sticht, Sophia Smith, and Austin Lukehart; six step-grandchildren; and a sister, Darles Busching of Shell Rock. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Robert Tilford.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 13, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will follow in the Lynwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Iowa. Friends may call from 4 until 7 p.m. on Monday, March 12, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
