Gottlieb Siewert, of Waverly, Iowa, age 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 30th, 2018.
Gottlieb was born on August 6th, 1931 in Rowno, Volynia, now a village in Poland, the son of Reinhold and Emma (Penno) Siewert. He was the youngest of seven siblings: five brothers and one sister. As a young man Gottlieb followed two of his brothers to the United States 1951 and was naturalized as a citizen in 1959. He was united in marriage to Anita Ludwig on January 26, 1956 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Gottlieb was an accomplished master mason. He was very proud of the many homes, additions and fireplaces he built here in Waverly, Milwaukee Wisconsin, and New Buffalo Michigan. Gottlieb was happiest mixing “mud” and laying bricks. He stayed active in his trade until his retirement at 76. But Gottlieb will be remembered always for his beaming smile and soft warm voice with the sympathetic German accent that he never lost.
Gottlieb is survived by his wife, Anita Siewert, his son, Roger Siewert, both of Waverly, Iowa and his sister Ida living in Germany.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Michigan and memorials in memory of Gottlieb may be directed to the family.
