On December 6, 1942, they were blessed with the birth of their son, Daniel, who was born on the day of Erhard's mother's birth. They continued to run the general store until 1984, when Geraldine and Erhard closed the store and moved to Waverly, Iowa. Jerry and Erhard enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. In 1997, they moved to California to make their home with their son, Daniel.

She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church-Artesian, where she had served with the Ladies Aid of the church. She loved people, and very much enjoyed seeing her regular customers at the store. She and Erhard have enjoyed traveling, seeing most of the United States.
