Gerald Paul “Jerry” Schunk, 73, of Clarksville, Iowa, died on Friday, October 5, 2018, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo.
Jerry was born on February 5, 1945, in Shakopee, Minnesota, the son of Gerald Alden and Mable Marion (Oleson) Schunk. He was baptized in 1945, at St. John the Baptist in Savage, Minnesota. He attended school in Savage until his family moved to the Waverly area. He was confirmed in 1954, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly. He graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High School in 1963. He was united in marriage to Branda Hoerman on March 5, 1980 in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Jerry retired from Carnation-Nestle in 2000 after 32 years.
Jerry loved going to flea markets and auctions. He was the owner and operator of Schunk Junque and More in Clarksville. He also loved watching stock car racing and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Branda Schunk of Clarksville; a son, David (Holly) Schunk of Waverly; a daughter, Kimberly Schunk of Dumont; a daughter, Dawn (Stacy) Ragsdale of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Jared, Satin, Whitney and Payton; six great grandchildren, a brother, Randy (Kathy) Schunk of Shell Rock; three sisters, Judy Young of Alton, Missouri; Patty (Jon) Kaiser of Waverly; and Kathy Schunk of Cedar Falls.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Larry Schunk and Terry John Schunk in infancy; a sister-in-law, Mary (Fails) Schunk; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Pauline Schunk and his maternal grandparents, Andrew and Mamie Oleson.
Private burial of cremains will be held in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family.
