George Kohagen, 90, of Waverly, Iowa passed away on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Bartels Lutheran Retirement in Waverly, Iowa.

George Rupert Kohagen was born on February 21, 1928, the son of Rudolph and Amanda (Milius) Kohagen on the farm in Jefferson Township, rural Waverly, Iowa. He was baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church - Artesian, rural Waverly and confirmed at Spring Fountain Church, rural Sumner, Iowa. George graduated from Tripoli High School. On October 29, 1950, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Strempke at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Readlyn, Iowa. George farmed his entire life, retiring in 1993.

He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Waverly. George enjoyed woodworking, traveling and his Texas trips with friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren and also attending their activities.

Survivors are his wife, Lorraine Kohagen of Waverly, Iowa; daughter, Sharon (Mark) Traetow of Denver, Iowa; son, Steve (Penny) Kohagen of Waverly, Iowa; four grandchildren; Ashley Kohagen, Nathan Traetow, Matthew Traetow and Michael Traetow; six great grandchildren, Whitney, Luke, Jordan, Brayden, Carter and Emry Traetow; brother-in-law, Waldo Ruehs; sister-in-law, Marilyn Kohagen and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Willard, Oscar, Melvin, Edmund and Rudolph Kohagen and five sisters, Dorlene Kueker, Leona Zander, Margaret Walther, Wilma Raudabaugh and Mildred Ruehs.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church & School in Waverly, Iowa with Pastor Patricia Shaw officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery - Crane Creek, rural Tripoli, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Tuesday for 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also an hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Kohagen family for a later designation and online condolences for George Kohagen may be left at
