Geoffrey Blaine Brunkhorst, age 58, a Waverly Iowa native, died on April 8th in Jackson, Tennessee. He was born in Waverly on May 10th, 1960. He was the eldest son of Dr. John and Edna Brunkhorst. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church and graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock with the class of 1978 and from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota in 1982 with a degree in Computer Science. He was united in marriage to Erin Ann Delaney in the Abbey Church at St. John’s on June 2nd, 1984. They made their home in Rochester, Minnesota where he worked for the Mayo Clinic and they raised their family: John Patrick (JP), Christopher Ryan, Caitlin Ann (Cait) until Erin passed away in 2008.
Geoff played numerous sports in high school and college. He loved the outdoors from his time as a Boy Scout counselor at Camp Ingawanis to camping and hiking as an adult. He also participated in RAGBRAI with family and friends. Geoff enjoyed all forms of cooking, whether it was baking sour bread or creating elaborate dinners. Geoff worked in the Information Technology field as a Security Consultant and was working for World Wide Technology out of the St. Louis Division at the time of his death.
Geoff's memory is honored by: three children, John Patrick (Lauren) Delaney, Christopher (Sarah Lester) Brunkhorst, and Cait (Matty Jones) Brunkhorst. One grand-daughter, Rowan Delaney. Sisters, Donna (George) Litman and Sheila (Tony Polanka) Brunkhorst. Brothers, Jim (Val), Bob (Kris), and Alan (Mary) Brunkhorst. Parents, John and Edna Brunkhorst. As well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Geoff was preceded in death by a niece, Grace Alberta Brunkhorst in 2001 and his first wife, Erin.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 16th at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 4pm to 6:30pm, with a Scripture Service at 6:30pm, and also one hour prior to the funeral at the church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on Wednesday, April 17th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly with Father David Ambrosy officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Winnebago Council-Boy Scouts of America or the Go-Hawk Scholarship Fund.
