Emma "Louise" Ortberg, of Readlyn, died Sunday, June 4, 2017, at her daughter's home in Duncan, South Carolina.

Louise was born September 24, 1935, the daughter of Glenwood L and Ruth Lucile Stanley. She attended schools in Searsboro, Monmouth, Baldwin, Elvira and then Lamont, where she graduated in 1952. She attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa and then graduated from the University of Dubuque. She worked at the Lamont Leader for two years. On June 9, 1957, she was united in marriage to Theodore "Ted" Ortberg at the Manchester Congregational Church. Over the 37 years of her teaching career she taught in Stanley, Manchester, Belle Plaine, Madison, Wisconsin and Dubuque.

Louise was a member of the Denver Baptist Church where she served as the board Secretary and was active with the Denver Baptist 60 and Growing. She was a member of the Readlyn Senior Citizens, Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, National T.T.T. Society, the National Stanley Family Association and the Women's Missionary through Dubuque Bible Church.

Louise is survived by three children; Kyle (Gail) Ortberg of Wildwood, Illinois, Kim (Ken) Smith of Duncan, South Caroline, and Kris (Dennis) Billington of Readlyn, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; Nicholas Ortberg, Erik (Rachael Stich) Ortberg, Kathryn (Shawn) Sullivan, Brian (Theresa Anna) Smith, Jason (Stephanie) Smith, Mindy (Ryan) Kahler, Natasha (Mitchell) Bailey, Mandy (Bryan) Geerts, James Vietmeyer, William (Erica) Billington, Ryan (Christina) Vietmeyer, James Billington, Emma Billington, and Kyla Billington, 16 great grandchildren; Aubrey and Adelyn Ortberg, Penelope Ortberg, Declan Smith, Dayton and Tanner Kent, Deacon and Lulu Bailey, Halie, Brynn, Brylie and Keegan Geerts, Eli and Payton Billington, Marshall and Catherine Vietmeyer, two sisters; Roberta (Joseph) Hoopes of Lindenhurst, Illinois and Lynne (Norman) Watson of Waterloo. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Ted, sister Bertha Lea Alaniz and brother Glenwood Lewis Stanley.

Memorial Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2017, at the Denver Baptist Church in Denver, Iowa. The family will greet friends at the church from 2:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date in the Friends Cemetery, Lynnville, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to National T.T.T. Society-Dubuque Chapter, Denver Baptist Church or Readlyn Community Library. On-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
