Edwin "Ed" L. Milius, 76, of Denver, died Tuesday, November 03, 2009, at the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Ed was born August 22, 1933, in Bremer County, Iowa, the son of Arnold and Clara (Hein) Milius. He graduated from Denver High School in 1950, and served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge in 1955. He then returned to Denver and began his work on the family farm. On May 31, 1959, he was united in marriage to Darlys (Poock) at Immanuel Lutheran Church-Klinger. Ed retired from farming in 2001 and moved off the farm and into town in 2003.
Ed was a long time member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver where he served on the church council and was an usher. He enjoyed farming and, in retirement, his flower and vegetable gardens. He also enjoyed woodworking and making quilts for the needy. He was a Master Pork Producer in Bremer County in 1980. Ed was known for his sense of humor and for being a kind person to all who knew him.
Ed is survived by his wife Darlys of Denver, one daughter; Pam (Steve) Salutric of Carol Stream, Illinois, one son; William (Judy) Milius of Waterloo, Iowa, three grandchildren; Emily Salutric, Adam Salutric, and Luke Milius; two brothers; Donald Milius and Arlen (Joanne) Milius. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Denver with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Denver and for one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Memorials may be directed to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Cedar Valley Hospice, or the Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community. On-line condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
