Born in Mankato, Minnesota
Resided in Waverly, IA

Donna M. Matthias, 75, of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the Waverly Health Center following a brief illness.
Donna was born on April 14, 1931 in Mankato, Minnesota to Carl and Miranda (Dokken) Frettem. She was baptized on May 17, 1931 at Minneola Lutheran Church, Goodhue County, Minnesota. Following graduation from Faribault High School in 1949, she worked in several positions before attending the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. On June 18, 1955 she was united in marriage to Merrill Anderson at First English Lutheran Church in Faribault. To this union were born three children: Dawn, Brent and David; their home became Wayzata, Minnesota. Donna was subsequently married on September 16, 1978 to Ronald Matthias at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Moving to Waverly in 1984, she became an active member and long-time officer of Wartburg Women's Club. For years she was a part-time student and staff member at Wartburg. She loved to read. But for all her interest in the world about her, she never permitted that interest to trump her passionate commitment to family.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents, by her first husband Merrill Anderson, and by a sister Carol Jean (James) Knapp. She is survived by her husband Ronald Matthias of Waverly, a daughter Dawn (Mark) Dobin of The Woodlands, Texas, two sons, David (Kim) of Chanhassen, Minnesota and Brent (Suzie) of Delano, Minnesota, by seven grandchildren: Christina Dobin, Elizabeth Dobin, Kathryn Dobin, Kippert Anderson, Joseph Anderson, Remy Anderson and Ryan Anderson. Also by three step-children: Jeanne (Brad) Rupp of Wichita, Kansas, Karen (Orville) Jones of Waverly, and Sara (Steven) Dobbs of Aberdeen, Scotland; by seven step-grandchildren: Joshua Rupp, Garrett Rupp, Caroline Rupp, Kimberly Jones, Jennifer Jones, Austin Dobbs and Aren Dobbs; one step-great grandchild: Ava Hambly; two brothers: Gordon (Betty) Frettem of Tucson, Arizona, Marlin Frettem of Los Lunas, New Mexico; and by two sisters, Joan (JD) Bringgold of Harlingen, Texas and Margie Ringquist of Faribault, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly, with burial in the Harlington Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and also on Wednesday at the church for one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to Wartburg College or to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Waverly. Online condolences may be left at:
