Diane Marie Gray, 57, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.
Diane was born on January 9, 1961, in Sumner, Iowa, the daughter of Sherwood and Margaret (Siegfried) Pleggenkuhle. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederika. She graduated from Tripoli High School in 1979 and attended Iowa State University. After her schooling, Diane worked in the sales and marketing department at Kay Industries in Janesville. She was united in marriage to Stuart W. Gray on April 27, 1985, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Frederika. Diane stayed at home while raising her children and then started working for the Waverly Newspapers. Most recently she was the property manager for Rolling Meadows Apartment Complex.
Diane was a member of the Women of Excellence bible study group. She enjoyed spending time in Spirit Lake and loved the trips she took with her sisters. Her kids were her heart and soul, and she was their number one fan when she attended their activities.
Diane is survived by her husband, Stuart Gray of Waverly; a daughter, Breanna (Nathaniel Ray) Rottinghaus; a daughter, Cassandra Gray; a daughter, Mattie (Jake Goessling) Gray; a son, Colin Gray (Holly Hejlik) and a daughter, Elena Gray; two grandchildren, Sophia and Jaxon and one grandchild on the way; her sisters, Sue Lundberg, Nancy (Marvin) Engh, Kimberly (Dean) Harmening, and Mary (Jerry) Dove; a brother, Timothy (Gayla) Pleggenkuhle; a brother-in-law, Barrett (Jo) Gray; and three sisters-in-law, Marilee Gray, Elizbeth Schellhorn and Catherine (Andy) Remley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Dan Pleggenkuhle; her mother and father in law, Dr. D.W. and Bessie Gray; two brothers-in-law, Roger Schellhorn and Henry Gray.
Diane has been the most supportive and unconditionally loving woman throughout her life. Despite any personal circumstances, she always put others before herself and maintained a gentle heart. As she recently said, “Be true to yourself. When you set your eyes on others, Jesus sets his eyes on you. Then all joy happens through the chaos and BS and you become his for the day.” Diane’s extravagant love is her greatest legacy that lives on in her family.
