Dennis “Denny” Dean Zahrt, 72, of Shell Rock Iowa and previously from Everly, Iowa, passed away Sunday night, January 27, 2019, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Community in Waverly.
Denny was born on July 18, 1946, in Spencer, Iowa, the son of Evelyn (Jones) and Harley Zahrt. He grew up in Spencer and graduated from Spencer High School in 1965. After his retirement, Denny moved to Shell Rock to be near Chris and his grandkids.
Denny enjoyed being a father and spending time with Chris. The two enjoyed camping and traveling. Denny also assisted with Chris’ Cub Scouts throughout the years. However, being a grandpa brought Denny the most joy. He loved fishing and playing pokemon with his grandchildren. Denny also enjoyed smoking his pipe.
Denny is survived by his son, Chris (Kelly Weidman) Zahrt of Shell Rock; and three grandchildren, Jami, Tyson, and Link Zahrt; and his brother, Chuck Zahrt of West Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Peggy Wells; brother, Wayne Zahrt; and sister-in-law, Pam Zahrt.
