Obituary

Coltin “Jr” James Carolus, 18, of Waverly, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo, Iowa, following a tragic accident, surrounded by his friends, at his home.

Coltin was born on March 27, 2000, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Stacy Ann (Hulbert) Carolus and Troy Richard Carolus. He attended Waverly-Shell Rock Schools and graduated in May 2018. He was enrolled in lineman school at NWICC in Sheldon, Iowa, and planned to start in August.

Coltin was very ambitious and currently worked as a mechanic with his dad at Dales Service, and as a heavy equipment operator for both Artesian Earthworks and Burkle Landscaping and Trucking. He previously did lawn care and snow removal for Hartman Services and Bill Kingsley - V14.

Coltin had many hobbies that included motorcycles, hunting, diesels, and snowmobiling. He was a member of the Midwest Diesel Society, FBH Performance, and Go-Hawk Fabrication. He was very social and enjoyed spending time with his friends, and especially with his best friend and sister, Courtney.

Coltin is survived by his parents, Troy (Lisa) Carolus of Waverly, and Stacy Carolus of Tripoli; his sister, Courtney Carolus of Tripoli; step-brothers, Kevin Cox and Ryder Laydon both of Waverly; maternal grandparents, Julie (Gary) Gordon of Waverly, and Glen (Brenda) Hulbert of Shell Rock; paternal grandparents, Gordon Carolus (Dianne Nagen) of Waverly, Iowa, and Phyllis (Frederick) Krumwiede of Waverly; maternal great-grandmother, Ann Gordon; paternal great-grandfather, Harvey Carolus; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents, Robert “Spike” Gordon, and Jo Anna and Roscoe Hulbert, paternal great-grandparents, Alene and Alfred Schweer, and Grace Carolus; and the family black lab, Cindy.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018, at the Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School Auditorium, with Pastor Jon Hennings officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Waverly. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 on Thursday, July 12, 2018, and one hour prior to the service at the Waverly-Shell Rock Middle School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for later destination. Online condolences may be left at www.kaisercorson.com.
