Blanche Avis Moeller, age 87, of Readlyn, passed away on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at her home.
Blanche was born on December 4, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of Carl and Avis (Chapin) Thies. She attended Sunnyside No. 2 country school and later graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1943. Blanche was baptized and confirmed on May 20, 1945, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls. On February 6, 1947, Blanche was united in marriage to Erwald Moeller at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn by Reverend Paul Moeller. They made their home on a farm near Waterloo for the first two years of their marriage and then bought a farm northeast of Readlyn where they would farm together until retiring in 1980. After retiring the couple moved into Readlyn.
Blanche was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Ruth Circle, Bremer County Election Board for 30 years, and was active in several other civic organizations.
In her spare time she liked to crochet and play cards.
Blanche's memory is honored by; her two children, Dale (Deb) Moeller of Dunkerton and Joan (Teri Lampe) Pence of Readlyn; two grandchildren, Amity (Kris) Astorp of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Ryan (Jenni) Moeller of St. Louis, Missouri; six great-grandchildren, Kyle, James, Luke, and John Moeller, and Addison and Ethan Astorp; and two brothers, Henry Thies of Waterloo and Bill (Nannette) Thies of Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Erwald on May 27, 2003.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, at Zion Lutheran Church in Readlyn with Pastor Mark Lund officiating. Burial will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Readlyn. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 16, at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Readlyn where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church and online condolences may be made at www.kaisercorson.com. 319-279-3551
