Beryl David Peck, age 94, of Waverly, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at Waverly Health Center in Waverly.

Beryl was born on February 21, 1924, southwest of Britt, Iowa, the son of Bruce H. and Dora A. (Wagner) Peck. He was baptized and later confirmed in the Catholic Church in Britt. Beryl’s family moved often as a youth and he attended country schools in several areas of Iowa where he graduated from the 8th grade. Upon finishing school, Beryl worked as a farm hand from 1937 to 1943. Beryl the went to work with his father on a farm east of Klemme, Iowa. On September 10, 1945, he was drafted into the United States Army at Fort Snelling, Minnesota, during WWII. Later he transferred to the Army Air Force and served our country in France, Germany, and Austria during WWII. His greatest mission was with the Berlin Air Lift. In October of 1949, Beryl was united in marriage to Mabel Lou Alexander in Webster City, Iowa. Later that year he was transferred to Japan where he was stationed during the Korean War. Until his retirement in January 1965, he continued serving with the reserves. Beryl then settled in Garner, Iowa where he worked for the John Deere Implement. In 1962, Beryl was united in marriage to Peggy Eggers. The couple made their home in Mason City, Iowa. In 1974, the couple moved to Waverly where Beryl worked with his brother, Terry, at his John Deere Implement. Beryl retired in 1985. After retirement, Beryl assisted his dear friend, Evelyn Stafford, with her child care business.

Beryl was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Waverly, Waverly AMVETS Post #79, Waverly V.F.W. Post #2208, Berlin Airlift Veteran’s Association, Berlin Airlift Historical Foundation, 8th Airforce Association, Fraternal Order of the Moose, Charles City, Iowa, Waverly CAM Car Club, John Deere 2 Cylinder Club World Wide, John Deere 2 Cylinder Club of Northeast Iowa, Ground Observer Corps, and Civil Air Patrol. His enjoyments included the many friends he met through the years of Polka dancing, collecting cars, and toy tractors. Beryl loved the outdoors and often would be found tending to his yard and that of many of his friends.

Beryl’s memory is honored by: his son, Stephen Peck of Salina, Oklahoma; grandson, Kevin Brown; great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Brown; five step-daughters, Linda (Gary) Linton-Marlin, Edna Mae (Kenny) Hundley of Sumter, South Carolina, Debra (Ron) Peck of Sherman, Texas, Joan (Mike) Mills of Foristell, Missouri, and Cindy (Terry) West of Janesville, Iowa; two step-sons, Larry (Carolyn) Donlon of Cedar Falls, Iowa and Earl (Diana) Stafford of St. Cloud, Florida; 9 step-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Thelma (Arnold) Prohaska of Clear Lake, Iowa and Doris (Robert) Prohaska of Garner, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Sally Peck of Bountiful, Utah and Jan Peck of San Bernardino, California; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Peggy, dear friend, Evelyn Stafford; four brothers, Terry, Merle, Charles, and Burdette Peck; and three sisters, Irene Wordehoff, Charlotte Peck and Dorothy Keeling and his daughter-in-law Rhonda Peck.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 14, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly with Father Paul Baldwin officiating. Private burial will follow the service at Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 14, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly where the family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to the time of service at 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Waverly Area Veterans Post (WAVP) and online condolences may be left at
